Staffing Companies & Pay Rates

Working at JP Morgan Through a Staffing Agency on OPT — Who Is Actually Your Employer?

A staffing company is basically a middleman between you and the company where you actually work every day. JP Morgan needs a data analyst but instead of hiring you directly they call a staffing agency, the staffing agency finds you, puts you on their payroll, and sends you to work at JP Morgan. You show up to JP Morgan every day, you do the work, you report to their managers — but your actual employer on paper is the staffing agency. This matters a lot for STEM OPT holders because the staffing agency is the one who signs your I-983 and is responsible for your compliance, not JP Morgan.
