Why Applying on LinkedIn as a STEM OPT Candidate Is Wasting Your Time
If you are on STEM OPT and spending hours applying on LinkedIn every day you are likely sending your resume into a black hole. The majority of jobs posted on LinkedIn do not mention visa sponsorship at all which means you spend time tailoring your resume, writing a cover letter, and waiting for a response that never comes — only to find out later the company does not sponsor. Most LinkedIn job postings are also flooded with thousands of applicants which makes it even harder to stand out as an international candidate who needs work authorization support. The platform is great for networking and reaching out to recruiters directly but as a job application portal for STEM OPT candidates it is one of the least efficient places to spend your energy.
