Can You Work Multiple Jobs While on H1B
Working multiple jobs on H1B is possible but it works very differently from OPT or STEM OPT because your H1B is tied to a specific employer who sponsored you. If you want to take on a second job while on H1B, that second employer has to file a separate H1B petition for you — this is called concurrent H1B employment and both petitions need to be approved for you to legally work both jobs. Think of it like one company sponsoring your H1B as a software engineer and another company also wanting to bring you on as a data analyst — the second company cannot just put you on payroll, they have to go through the full H1B filing process for you as well. You cannot simply pick up a second job the way you might back home or the way a citizen could — every employer that pays you needs to have an approved petition on file. If you are considering this route the paperwork and timing involved make it a situation where having an attorney is not optional it is necessary.
